Bristol
is the largest city of the West of England, offering a lovely Cathedral,
the magnificent SS Great Britain and the Matthew, both moored in
the floating harbour within 3 minutes of the greenhouse.
Bristol has a chequered history, having developed its wealth from
the luxury goods (wine, tobacco and slaves) imported and exported
through its harbour.
In modern times, Rolls Royce Aero Engines and British Aerospace
have built their factories in the city.
Nowadays, Bristol boasts two fine universities, one of the best
veterinary colleges in the country, a teaching hospital and a very
good art school, so it is a young and vibrant city. There is plenty
of night life for those music lovers out there, and some of the
best restaurants in the West Country.
Bristol is an ideal place to stay and explore the surrounding countryside.
